The Vaad (literally, organization or leadership group) is the student leadership of AJRCA. It represents a unique and integral part of the school and of student life, planning and organizing key programs during the school year. The Vaad organizes part of the annual Orientation, plans festive holiday celebrations, maintains the student supply of refreshments, attends to the “green” dimension (ecology and health) of student life, and offers discount book sales at certain times of year.  It coordinates leadership of minyanim and Torah leyning. The Vaad is responsible for planning the theme, program design and overall logistics of the annual AJRCA Retreat, held at the beginning of each Spring Semester.

Representatives from the professional schools lead the Va’ad: Lily Tash, Cantorial; Julian King, Rabbinical; Michael Salonius, Chaplaincy; Bruce Skolnick, Rabbinical.

The Vaad meets with the student body once a month to share information and announcements and to hear concerns from students that may need to be communicated to faculty and administration. A Vaad representative attends the monthly meetings of the Board of Directors as well as certain Faculty Committee meetings.

Because of the wide range of responsibilities and organizational skills that will be useful to students in their later careers, we encourage all students to serve on the Vaad for at least one year.  In 2014, leadership training was offered to Vaad members by consultants from the Center for Collective Wisdom, under the auspices of a grant from the Angell Foundation.
