At the Academy for Jewish Religion California (AJRCA), we believe that Jewish leadership is both a calling and a responsibility. The future of Jewish life depends on leaders who are deeply rooted in tradition, spiritually attuned, and capable of meeting the evolving needs of diverse communities. That’s why AJRCA offers a range of academic programs designed to prepare students for dynamic leadership roles—as rabbis, cantors, chaplains, lay leaders, educators, and non-profit professionals—within and beyond the Jewish world.

Leadership in a Transdenominational Context

Our unique nondenominational approach encourages students, regardless of movement affiliation, to draw from the wisdom of major Jewish thought, regardless of movement affiliation. This inclusive approach broadens perspectives and enhances each leader’s ability to serve a wide variety of communities with respect, empathy, and authenticity. Whether working in synagogues, hospitals, educational environments, or interfaith settings, AJRCA graduates are equipped to meet people where they are.

Rabbinical School

Our Rabbinical School prepares students to be spiritual leaders grounded in Torah, Jewish law, and pastoral skills. The program includes rigorous study of classical texts like Talmud and Midrash, alongside courses in contemporary halacha, theology, ethics, and leadership. Students also participate in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) and fieldwork in real-world settings.

Cantorial School

Cantorial students develop musical proficiency and liturgical expertise while also training as spiritual leaders. From Shabbat and High Holiday repertoire to life-cycle music and diverse Jewish traditions, our Cantorial School offers a solid foundation in Jewish musical leadership—supported by voice coaching and performance opportunities.

Chaplaincy School

The Academy’s Chaplaincy School prepares students to provide spiritual care in clinical settings like hospitals, prisons, hospices, and beyond. With a strong foundation in Jewish tradition and Clinical Pastoral Education, graduates go on to earn board certification and serve people of all faiths with compassion and professionalism.

Master of Jewish Studies

For those interested in academic enrichment or exploring Jewish leadership in non-clergy roles, our Master of Jewish Studies program offers deep engagement with texts, history, and theology. Students can choose concentrations that match their goals, from education to community leadership.

At AJRCA, leadership is nurtured through scholarship, spiritual development, and real-world service—forming a bridge between timeless Jewish values and the demands of contemporary life.
