With the start of the 2021-22 school year upon us, we are highlighting members of the incoming class of students. Click here to see all of the posts in this series.
Today we’re talking with incoming MJS student Amanda Nube.

Q1) Where do you live?
Q2) How did you first hear of AJRCA?
From rabbinic student, Sarah Tziprah Moser.
Q3) What was it about AJRCA that drew you to enroll here?
A Chaplaincy program in a Jewish setting and AJR’s flexibility of study options. I was unsure what my final destination was and is to be, but was looking into Chaplaincy. I spoke with Rabbi Rochelle Robbins and after listening to me and my interests and background she suggested starting with the Masters program and taking one unit of CPE.
Q4) What were you doing prior to enrolling?
I have been working as a practitioner and teacher of bodywork with Chinese, Mayan, and Ayurvedic medicine for over 10 years. I combined my study of traditional medicine with my training as a birth doula to offer support to women and families. I have been a student of Rabbi Jill Hammer for years and received ordination from the Kohenet Institute in 2018.
Q5) As you embark on this experience, what are you most excited about?
While I am called to tend to rituals of birthing and of adolescents’ b’nai mitzvahs I am excited to have the opportunity to deepen my studies and practice of Jewish Traditional medicine and to pursue this Master’s Degree in Jewish Studies and Ceremony. I love music, dj-ing, and dancing too, so I like the idea of becoming a Masters of Ceremony (MC)!
Welcome Amanda!
