The path to becoming a board-certified chaplain is a sacred journey, combining academic study, practical training, and spiritual development. At the Academy for Jewish Religion California (AJRCA), the Chaplaincy School prepares students to meet the highest standards of professional spiritual care, ensuring they are well equipped to serve diverse populations with compassion, competence, and clarity.

Meeting National Standards

The Academy is unique in the Jewish educational world as it houses a provisionally accredited Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program, preparing students to pursue board certification through two certifying boards:

  • Neshama: Association for Jewish Chaplains (NAJC)
  • Association of Professional Chaplains (APC)

The curriculum combines Jewish studies with professional skills essential to chaplaincy, including:

  • Pastoral counseling
  • Grief and trauma support
  • Interfaith dialogue
  • Spiritual assessment

Hands-On Clinical Training

At the heart of AJRCA’s chaplaincy program is hands-on clinical experience through CPE. Students work in hospitals, hospices, and care facilities, gaining essential experience under the guidance of certified supervisors. They learn how to respond to crises, offer spiritual support, and work within multidisciplinary teams.

A Calling Answered

AJRCA views the preparation of chaplains as a sacred duty. Chaplaincy students are supported not only academically, but spiritually and emotionally throughout their journey. With a balance of theory and practice, graduates leave prepared for board certification and a career of spiritual service.
